Night Eyes was formed to keep a watchful eye to prevent theft of property development materials & peoples assets in our area. Most of the operation was done at night - hence the name. We have considered a name change many times but we have resolved to just explain there are a lot of ‘eyes’ watching over our local water and land.
The operation has changed considerably now with no night work, and has grown from one or two people to a membership approaching 100. We now have a transport vehicle and a larger and more suitable boat allowing a larger payload and easier transport of personnel.
What We Do
WATER-BASED OPERATIONS
Volunteer crews work from our pontoon boat, collecting rubbish that has been inappropriately disposed of or blown into the water.
The boat operates fve days a week (weather permitting) and covers a large area, including:
The navigable headwaters of Coochin and Bells Creeks
Accessible areas of Bribie Island
The shores of Bulcock Beach, Caloundra
All canals within Pelican Waters and associated shore lines of these areas.
LAND-BASED OPERATIONS
Our land crews patrol accessible shorelines and local streets.
This group meets twice weekly at varying locations. We call this the "Walk, Talk and Tidy".
Both teams focus on collecting general litter and rubbish, which is then properly disposed of in council bins or at the tip.
